Know Different HVAC Air Filters

Air filters come in different sizes so when selecting an air filter replacement, make sure that it fits your unit’s filter cabinet correctly, or else you will have airflow obstructions that hinder the performance of your HVAC system. Listed are a few different air filter options to choose from:

Air Filters

Fiberglass

Fiberglass filters are a cheap and disposable option for your unit. They catch up to 80% of particles and provide minimum protection at an average price point.

Polyester

Polyester filters are made using the highest quality materials. They trap and eliminate 80% to 95% of particles and they cost more than the average fiberglass/synthetic filter, but it offers more protection against pollutants.

Electrostatic

Electrostatic filters use self-charging fibers to attract particles out of the air. They come in disposable or washable depending on the requirements of your unit.

HEPA

high-efficiency-particulate-air filters provide high-end filtration by trapping up to 99% of particles. Even though they are excellent at eliminating indoor pollutants and creating a healthier environment in your home, they can drastically reduce your system’s airflow, costing more money in energy usage. Due to the thick filtration material used in such filters, a typical residential furnace or air conditioner could not handle the intense air pressure needed to get through the material so choose a HEPA filter with a high MERV rating.
